Your body is your temple

One day, I was lifting my, at the time, 3 year old daughter and sharp lightning type pain struck my lower back. I had trouble doing any movement for days including, sitting, laying down and I couldn’t even dream of bending. Everyday chores and movement turned into a nightmare. An orthopedic specialist diagnosed me with a disk disorder and I was sent to physical therapy.

I started with stretches twice a day and I slowly gained back control over my body. Movement has always been a big part of my life and I decided to invest in my physical well being so I can pick up my kids and throw them in the air for many years to come.

I am now in the best physical shape of my life with the highest level of flexibility ever. Here’s my every day routine:

  • Do 3 sets of a single exercise (e.g. push ups, air bicycle, pull ups or deep lunges) – takes 8 minutes
  • Stretch focusing on my hamstrings and lower back to stay flexible and avoid future back pain – 10 minutes
  • Run twice a week for 30 minutes. I find this crucial to move blocked energies. I often get downloads from the universe or find revelations while listening to spiritual texts during my runs
  • Skipping one day per week for whatever reason is OK and expected
  • Eat only between 11:30AM and 7PM. Two main meals but no constrains on those meals.
  • After doing this for a while I do find that I crave lighter meals more often so I started to eat more sushi, fish, and salads for dinner. I almost completely stopped craving alcohol although I love wine. I have a terrible sweet tooth and I usually have dessert after my meals or a snack between my meals. My sugar addiction may be the last one to go.

I’ve built up to this, still pretty light, routine slowly while giving myself grace every step of the way when I skipped exercises, stretches, or steered away from my diet. I have discovered that daily exercises and intermittent fasting have a profound impact on how I feel, my state of mind, and my general well being. I find myself well positioned to practice self-love and self-acceptance.
